Activities
REWIND works closely with a number of public bodies and local agencies who have links either directly or indirectly in challenging racism. We aim to deliver the following activities within the limits permitted by law, staffing levels, funding and any other unforeseen circumstances.
Trainings for professional / organisations
"To train professionals in a variety of fields with an aim to training increasing knowledge of these issues and impacting the delivery of services e.g. police officers"
Training for young people in schools (primary and secondary)
"To train young people from Key Stage 3 ages with an aim being preventative work, before they may themselves become engaged in racist behaviour or to challenge some of the knowledge and beliefs of young people already engaged or displaying racism e.g. Hateley Heath Primary School and George Salter Secondary School"
Training for young people in youth groups / informal settings
"To train young people from Key Stage 3 ages who may not attend mainstream provision or for whom it will be easier to engage in informal settings, with an aim being preventative work, before they may themselves become engaged in racist behaviour or to challenge some of the knowledge and beliefs of young people already engaged or displaying racism. E.g. Oakham Pupil Referral Unit"
Set up a comprehensive Resource of books, newspaper articles, video's etc. in the area of 'race' and racisms.
"To become a resource base for these issues in the area, currently there seems to be very little information collated."
Involvement in policy development
"To be involved at various levels in the development of polices in the borough and nationally regarding issues of 'race' and racisms (with an emphasis on training) e.g. Bradford's Programme for a Peaceful City pilot project."
Support and Facilitate Capacity Building - e.g.' peer educators
"To build the capacities of local people wherever possible in delivering training, training to be trainers themselves, becoming involved in projects etc. e.g. Rising Youth 'Ism's' Project in Tividale Reveal Project in West Bromwich"
Link into Personal Health and Social Education curriculum's
"Link into themes of 'refugees and human rights', 'the world as a global community' , 'mans humanity to man', 'emotional health and well-being', 'cultural and social justice', in the PHSE and Citizenship lessons, curriculum in key stages 2,3+4"
Link into other school subject curriculum's
"Link into other curriculum subjects such as geography, science, history - as suggested by the QCA (Qualification and Curriculum Authority)
Influence Local and where possible National polices on 'race' and challenging 'racisms'.`
